Thoughts from The Huston

Well as we head into 2009 it's time to make a mark on this music industry in Cleveland! There is way to much talent in this city for us not to get respect and recognition out here! Kid Cudi is making moves which is awesome but there are plenty of underground artists who have gone unrecognized and that is unacceptable! People need to do there research and realize we do have a city full of entertainers who deserve to be noticed in the music game if you don't believe me check out the artists I List below and you will come to realize what potential we have in Cleveland. "Cap Rap" is dying off and as the different labels look for new talent they will over look our city due to the fact that the only artists who have gotten any exposure have been cap rappers so all the lyrical talent is being over looked! We need to put a stop to it and get these artist the exposure they deserve! Was Nas right when he said Hip-Hop is dead...? I think Hip-Hop isn't dead i think the the industry has taken a 180 degree turn towards watered down club hits! Which isn't completely bad except that artists like Joe Budden DO NOT get recognition for what they do and a lot of underground emcees have no love from anyone even in there own cities! Then Nas released "Hero" which was an anthem for artists to give people a person to look up to and now the state of the country is in a lot of trouble. It is fine to have people who make music that makes you able to dance and have a good time in the club, I just ask for a balance!!! and especially in Cleveland "rappers" need to stop just following the form of what every other city is doing! Step back and think of it this way why would another city be fans of our artists if they have artists from there city doing the same type of music? Also, I believe Local Dj's need to spin local artist more than Gucci & Oj the Juice Man! There are an extremely huge group of talented producers in this city also! So to wrap everything up please Cleveland lets have a balance and make us come up and take over the industry because we have more talent than people know!

  1. Who is The Houston? I hope one of these 'cap rappers' slap the taste out of his mouth. Dude is a failure, and sucks at life. R.I.P. The Houston!

  2. LOL at "Anonymous" defending cap rappers. I would post anonymously too if I had something stupid to say. Show me just one cap rapper that ever made it. Many came close...but then died. RIP to cap rap.

Now onto this post, I've already shared my thoughts on the original, but to sum it up, its all about promoting yourself in and beyond Cleveland. Too many artists are sitting around waiting for something to happen. You gotta be proactive to have a career in this industry. Simple as that.

  3. Turn your radio on. It's full of nothing but cap rappers that MADE it. No one is defending them, just tired of every blog I go on seeing this "The Houston" running his mouth, like he is any type of important to hip-hop, or cap rap!

  4. I don't agree with everything he says either and I've debated him before, but he's a blogger and theres still such thing as freedom of speech even though liberals are trying to take that too.

Anyway, I was referring to Cleveland rappers since "cap" is known by other names in other cities. A few got their 15 min of fame like Bapes and that was it. And the radio really isn't a factor in music anymore. Most radio stations are struggling just to stay in business. The internet took that over and I rarely hear that kind of rap being promoted on major hip-hop websites.

If their satisfied with radio play for a diminishing audience then I guess thats cool but when Soundscan numbers roll in every week I never see those cats on the charts. Look at the artists who are selling. Soulja Boy's recent album flop should be a lesson to all.

  6. Whoa, your a critic?! More like a blogger as Nox said.

You have no type of accreditation to your name to even claim that title.

I googled you... no results, what's up with that? Well, myspace.

I think your just a mad teenager with nothing better to do.
